(Actor Hugh Grant tells a public rally for media reform how press problems go way beyond Murdoch. Photo by Patrick Chalmers)

The crimes and misdemeanours of large sections of the British media were aired by their various victims during a public rally for Media Reform at Westminster Central Hall in central London on Thursday evening. The question on people's lips was what will be their punishment and whether the ongoing Leveson Inquiry will be able to bring meaningful reforms either to British journalism or the political establishment it pretends to watch over...

Colombia & the Curse of Globalization - Inviting Corruption Part 1

In this first installment of the series, "Inviting Corruption", Sean Comiskey reflects on how multinational corporations profit from Colombia's 40 years civil war. For the interviews he used visionOntv's new mobile phone template.

On 26th April, the Minority Rights Group (MRG), which supports disadvantaged minorities and indigenous peoples, along with Hollman Morris, acclaimed journalist and Colombian film director, presented their new documentary "Suárez Gold: Afro-Colombian miners defending their heritage".

The documentary highlights the problems ancestral Afro-descendants colombian communities face today. That is to say, defend their livelihoods against the invasion of multinational mining companies. "A story that needs to be told" according to Emma Weastwood, Media Officer at MRG, and also "the story of gold which we can all relate to"...

Traditional media aren't the answer, we are

It's a pig to get going as a journalist. Despite reporters' enduring reputations as sub-pond-life types, plenty of people are eager to join them in writing, filming or photographing the news. Supply way outstrips the commercial demand, making it hard to earn any sort of living.

For all the wannabe hacks, there aren't that many places for them to go. Of those at the mainstream media groups, their news output does a generally terrible job of holding our governors to account or examining the various crises facing our societies today. The few journalists who land regular jobs must balance their journalistic zeal and ideals with holding down their positions........

Read how Patrick Chalmers outlines the case for making our own media, using visionOntv's mobile templates, in the  April 2012 issue of the online quarterly Stir Magazine.

Unwelcome to Palestine 2012

D Murphy, member of Swansea Palestine, talks to visionOntv, just hours before trying to board on a plane to Tel Aviv. As many other participants to the "Welcome to Palestine 2012", a campaign to support the right to visit Palestine, it is likely that she'll be stopped to leave the country by airlines under pressure from Israeli authorities. All over the wolrd, many campaigners were blocked at airports or arrested in Tel Aviv.

In this interview Dee decribes an absurd situation where peaceful and non violent citizens are stopped to leave their own country by a foreign government.
